The sensational results of the first V&A at Dundee Masterclass will be on show at The McManus: Dundee's Art Gallery & Museum until the end of next week.

The 'Portraits for the Future' masterclass was part of the events taking place around the exhibition Queen Elizabeth II by Cecil Beaton: A Diamond Jubilee Celebration which is on show at The McManus until Sunday 8 January 2012.

Internationally renowned artist Professor Calum Colvin led a group of professionals in the 3-day workshop, for which Michael Marra, the Scottish singer and songwriter, sat as subject.

The workshop, hosted in The McManus’ Creative Learning Suite, used the Cecil Beaton exhibition as a platform for debate and inspiration, examining how portraiture has been captured and developed since the original photographs were taken.

The masterclass was supported by Calumet, the UK’s leading supplier of digital photographic equipment, offering the rare opportunity to work with state-of-the-art Hasselblad digital technology, on loan for the duration of the masterclass.

The event was the first in an ongoing series of V&A at Dundee masterclasses concerned with design-led innovation.

We've posted a fantastic range of images from the Masterclass for you to enjoy, including captivating portrait shots of Michael Marra, the team creating the artistic sculpture and - of course - a photo of the sensational final artwork. Check them out on the V&A at Dundee Facebook page...
